Catherine Kearney’s Masters research entitled “An exploration of hope theory and community participation in the context of current inequalities” led her to create the Community Toolkit which built on her many years’ experience working with families and more recent experience promoting mental and emotional wellbeing, through crafting and whilst co-ordinating a food pantry. Catherine has developed a toolkit which supports anyone working in communities facing challenges and offers hope through considering universalism, participation, activism and altruism.
Community Toolkit training takes the form of a two hour workshop which can be delivered online or in person. It provides anyone working in community with the reflective tools to consider and contextualise their approach within their own setting whilst learning from others through a shared group learning experience.
The training works effectively to provide spaces of belonging and safety for practitioners. It draws together experience and postgraduate research to ensure a solid foundation and a wide scope for applicability in a range of settings.
